![]() ![]() | This is another tool originally made for project coupe, the idea is to measure the angle of the wheel to the road. Ideally you want the top of the wheel to point inboard, most people recon about 1deg negative is about right. One method to achieve this is with adjustable camber bolts, this is also the most popular and cheapest option. ![]() |
I have desinged the camber gauge to use an inclinometer or a smart phone with a spirit level app to measure the angle.I will be using a digital level for the demonstration this is because it will be easier to see on the video. First assemble the camber guage as in picture 1,there are 2 ways to measure the camber angle No 1 being with the wheel on and fitting the guage to the wheel and No 2 fitting the guage to the brake disk. The guage is supplied with magnetic feet for use on steel wheels or the brake disk. The video is done with the a brake disk mounted in the vise, this just makes it easier to explane the process of setting up the the guage and the level. The guage is also supplied with an adjustable top leg, this allows the user to zero the guage once fitted to the disk or wheel. This step is not necessary if you are using a smartphone just press the calibrate button. | ![]() |
![]() | I first made one of these for my son,( he is an aviation engineer) he has a Fiat Coupe,he had bought a set of camber bolts for the Coupe and wanted a simple repeatable way to check and adjust his camber.Since then I have made a few for his mates and people on tuning forums This is the procedure he uses, clean of any flaking rust of the rim of the brake disc then make a dot with the punch on the edge of the disc.It makes no differance where abouts on the disk as long as there is only one dot.Turn the disk so the dot is vertical,to be certain the dot is vertical hold a pumbline from the car wing down to the disc now positian the gauge so the longest leg is on this line. You now have a setup that can be repeatable. |
